From Mike Harris
Just to let you know that Colemere SC were represented by yours truly at this prestigious invitation only event.
Six boats contested three races in the Solent and I was asked to helm a Jeanneau 49 being the only crew member with any kind of experience!!.
The first race saw us off to a flying start and the race was in the bag as we approached the windward mark (Lymington Bank Buoy) unfortunately Fergus the skipper (a psychology graduate!) clearly misjudged the strength of the tide and we kissed the buoy good and hard. This enforced an early lunch in Yarmouth while Crosswater fetched a new boat (Benateau 51).
The second race started without us (Fergus said the radio wasn’t working) but we managed a creditable last place. The third race saw us start last but finish third after some inspired downwind work in the shallows.
I am told the Jeanneau will be off the water for some four weeks!
Mike
