More details on Special Grand Prix Event Sunday 6th July

We are running a special sailing event to coincide with the British Grand Prix on Sunday 6th July. The emphasis is very much on fun and enjoyment for all, not serious racing. The format of the fun racing will be very different to what we tried before at Colemere – rather than 3 x 1 hour races, we will be scheduling 10 x 10 minute races using the pursuit model whereby the slower boats start first in groups and are “pursued” by the faster dinghies. The aim of the day is to give all participants a realistic opportunity to cross the finishing line first and the OODs Tom Harris and Steve Murphy will ensure that this happens.

The Colemere Grand Prix event will start with an OOD briefing at the starting box at 1000 hrs. This briefing will explain the course (may only be a start line, windward mark and a finish line) and the starting sequence. Then the first of five back-to-back races will commence at 1030 sharp. We will then break for a BBQ lunch; Steve Locke will have lit the Colemere BBQ and you are welcome to cook your own food on the same. Steve will also be organising some shore-based games for the younger children. Please note that the club will not be providing any food during the day, you must bring your own.

The sailing will resume following lunch, and again the aim is to complete a further five short races. Sailors must be prepared to be switched between the starting groups at the discretion of the OOD so that the aim of the day can be met. Results will be gathered and there will be a brief award presentation at the starting box at the completion of sailing, timing tbc.

Please come along and take part in the event which promises to be very relaxed and good fun. We also need as many event photographs as possible please for the Colemere blog, Facebook page and the OOD is planning on submitting an article recording the CSC GP event to Yachts and Yachting for publication on their website and possibly in the magazine itself. The OOD will appeal for photographs on the day.
