The pre-rigging party was a very enjoyable occasion and beautifully organised by Steve, his wife Sharon and daughter Claire. The food was delicious and almost, but not quite, matched by Steve’s amazing collection of prizes for the raffle. Many of the prizes had been kindly donated by local firms amongst Steve’s wide range of local contacts. Note the delighted look on the face of last year’s commodore, Ian, as he carries off his rather large prize!
One of the other highlights of the evening was Steve’s sailing ‘snakes and ladders’ game. We were organised into two teams and some moves down the ‘course’ landed on squares which involved up to four forfeits as a penalty. Mike Brain was particularly skilled with the remote controlled spider slalom game forfeit ! Steve Millington’s young son was also an extremely keen and competitive player and one photo captures Clare in action on the ‘course’.
It was so good to see such a wide range of ages enjoying the clubhouse and each others company, and we were delighted that Renee Webster, who was commodore during 1996 and 1997 was able to join us for the evening.
Our thanks goes to Steve and family for organising this social event, and I hope that the weather later this year will enable us to enjoy a particularly sociable summer, fully utilising our club house lawn and barbecue facilities. Please note that the new side door installed last year makes for easy access to the lawn area for families, without having to go outside the club’s perimeter fence.
Have an enjoyable sailing season!
Bob Oak – Commodore
