Summer Fun Event, Sunday 12 June 2016

A great time was had by all at Colemere on Sunday. The event was co-ordinated by Mike Brain with lots assistance by an intrepid team of helpers.

The day started with a “cork race” Mike explained the rules at the pre-race briefing before the fleet of 12 boats set out on their mission ( which was basically to collect as many corks as possible from the lake, being scattered from the safety boats, with a few complications to make things more interesting). A light breeze blew down the mere and everyone seemed to get around well and collect plenty of corks. Especially those using paddles and fishing nets!

After much cork counting the winner was declared as “Team Harry”, Harry Dimelow and Pete Williams in Pete’s Miracle. I think runner up was “Flash”, Nick Blore and crew in Nick’s Enterprise.

For lunch, we were treated to wine, Pimms and soft drinks, delicious pulled pork, served on baps, garnished with stuffing and apple sauce. This was followed by choices from the sweet table, including lemon meringue pie, Bakewell tart, cheesecake, chocolate cake, roulade and more.

Commodore Matt presented the prizes to the cork race winners and thanked all those who helped with the preparation and running of the event.

The after lunch sailing event was a pursuit race (slower boats start first and the fastest start last). By this time the wind had started to fade away and in the end the wind was so light (non existent) that the lead boat (Nick and crew in their enterprise) had not even completed one lap of the course.

Many thanks must go to Mike’s “event team” involved in preparations for the day and the running of it. Shirley, Ellen and Meryl who actually slow-cooked the pork. Meryl for sourcing and collecting the baps. Shirley, Meryl, Ellen, Felicity and Pete who brought puddings/sweets and Helen who provided the decorations. Helen and Ellen also provided prizes and chocs etc. Nicola Rouse did sterling work helping Shirley and Meryl serving food and clearing up. I also must credit Pete who spent many hours last week cutting the grass around the dinghy park and the Clubhouse.

Apologies to anyone I have not mentioned, all the work you did to help make the event a success was very much appreciated.

Below are some pics, courtesy of Helen, showing the activity in and around the Clubhouse.
Now added 50 more pictures from Meryl’s daughter Jane. Thanks Jane, some great action shots.
